Replacement Windows vs Replacing Window Frames

There are a few things to think about before deciding if you should replace your window frames when you get new windows. Most new windows do not require new frames, but there are some situations where it might be a good idea to replace them. Some things to think about include the type of replacement windows you select and the condition of your existing window frames.

There are different types of windows. If you have casement or slider style windows, in most cases you will need to replace your window frame when installing replacement windows.

Rotten window frames are a problem. If the rotting is not too bad, in some cases the frame can be repaired. But if significant rotting is visible, the entire frame must be replaced when installing replacement windows.

Window frames that are out of square typically need to be replaced when installing replacement windows.

Do your current window frames look crooked? If they do, you will need to replace them when you get new windows. Do you want different shaped or sized windows? Many people choose to replace their windows with a different shape or style, and this usually requires replacing the window frame too.
